Cures For Snoring
Before you can consider any cures for snoring you have to look at some of the underlying causes first. The main reason for this is that each cause may require a different solution.
If you are married to a snorer then you know how infuriating it can be when the snoring starts, it just seems to get louder and louder. You prod him, you ask him to move position and it’s great for an hour or two and then it starts again!
A visit to our doctor and some medication and my sleep was so much better! In fact our doctor said that we were one of the lucky ones. The cure for snoring which involves taking medication only has a 25% success rate – 3 months later and he was snoring worse than ever.
So why is the success rate so low?
It seems that people are more comfortable trying medication either prescribed or over the counter because it’s easier to deal with. It’s convenient and snorers and/or their partners think it’s going to work and guess what 3 months down the line it doesn’t. The main reason is that pills tend to treat the symptoms and not tackle the root cause.
Lifestyle issues.
Snoring like many illnesses usually has a lifestyle component attached that is a major contributing factor. That is why it is sensible to sit down with your doctor and/or partner and try to isolate environmental and or possible physical causes.
For example, if you are 5′10″ and weigh 250 pounds there is a serious possibility that being overweight is a major factor. If you are a heavy smoker then likewise. You see, the main cause of snoring is an obstruction of the palette and/or nasal passages when the muscles relax as you sleep. If you are too fat then these passages clog up the airways causing the snoring sound. So losing weight if you are overweight is a sensible starting point. Pills won’t cure this problem long term that’s a fact!
